A chilling attack shocked the congregation of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Sunday. Gunmen stormed the church during a service, killing Prophet Yomi Adetula, 54, in a brutal act of violence.

The tragic incident occurred at the CCC Eagle Parish along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, around 10:30 a.m. Eyewitnesses reported that three armed men targeted the prophet, opening fire on him and later mutilating his head with an axe to ensure his death, leaving worshippers terrified and grief-stricken.

Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the horrific details in a statement.

“Upon arrival, officers found Yomi Adetula, male, aged 54, lying lifeless in a pool of blood, his white celestial garment soaked. His body bore multiple gunshot wounds, and his head had been severely mutilated with an axe,” Odutola recounted.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants entered the church with a long double-barrel gun, fired at the prophet, and fled immediately after the gruesome act. The suspects reportedly escaped toward the border area.

The prophet’s body has been transported to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro as authorities intensify their investigation into the heinous crime.

“Normalcy has been restored in the area, and the police are working diligently to uncover clues and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Odutola assured.
